What's Going On: Week of 1/9-1/13

I'm sorry for this late post. Here is what is going on this week. Because of state-wide standardized testing, we won't cover as much as we need to this week.

8th graders will be starting a project on solar system formation. They watched a video from the Discovery Channel series How the Universe Works on solar systems, which gave an overview of how our solar system formed. This project will go more in-depth into that and introduce terminology relevant towards understanding how solar systems formed.

6th graders started learning about the Big Bang this week. They will create a timeline of important events that occurred from the beginning of the Big Bang to the present day, 14 billion years after the Big Bang. After that, the 6th graders will perform a lab on Hubble's Law. Hubble's Law states galaxies are continuing to expand away from each other, due to the force of the explosion of the Big Bang. We will complete a kinesthetic activity on Hubble's Law.
